Formed in early spring 2008, the combined musical performance and writing strengths of four of St. Louis’ top rock musicians culminated in a truly unique outfit, Black Market Peace.
The name was conceived as an amalgam for all “counter culture” movements that formed in various ages when a large society‘s government - in paranoia - turned against their own citizens. Black Market Peace is that underground war cry and tactics of regular citizens that have historically returned their homelands to sane, yet evolved and more just governance.
With a foundation of punk energy being the only agreed upon factor in the band’s sound, a loose framework grew organically that allowed each member’s influences - both past and present - to permeate each song. No iron road map, just inner desires and a limitless spectrum from The Who, to Talking Heads, to to The Clash, to Radio Head and Jane’s Addiction. Rich soundscapes within the group's coined “New Mod” sound as well as deeper, interpretive lyrics broadcasting the largely buried emotion and spiritual plight of urbanized “rational, solar man” within the time limits radio program directors can smile at.
The result is a true "crossover" rock record with a surprisingly cohesive sound that deeply connects with many by the very virtue of its musical diversity, honest, heartfelt messages and a return to emotional and thoughtful musical performance. Currently, the full 12-song record Black Market Peace, "Thanksgiving" is available in full streams and downloads at: http://www.aralie.com/black_market_peace/ as well as 8 songs, with additional performance and other information at: http://www.reverbnation.com/blackmarketpeace.
