RETURN TO LIST
On The Move Albums | Top 10
So I was walking to grocery store the other day and I began thinking about the days when an iPod was but a mere wish on my Christmas list. What struck me as odd is that I couldn’t remember the days of walking to the sweet city sounds around me. The cars passing, the horn’s honking, the people yelling - oh how I miss it.

For the people who still walk and take Public Transportation, like myself, an iPod is more than a device that plays music. It’s a little block of gold in one’s pocket that allows them to shut out the chaos of the world and walk to their own beat. I sometimes like to think I’m in a movie and the songs playing are the soundtrack playing in the background. As crazy as that sounds, I feel life without my Ipod would be dull and uninspiring. Personally, I like the feeling of being in my own little world while I’m strutting like a goof who’s lost his way in this hectic world.

From this seemingly minor epiphany, I decided I would make a list of the Top Ten Albums to cruise to while walking around and riding the buses. In no particular order, the list is as follows:

1. Beck’s - Guero - This album will have you walking where you’re going with a purpose.  Beck throws it down so many different ways it will make the walk seem a lot faster. Guaranteed.

2. The Strokes- Is this it? -
Great album to walk to. The boys from New York will have you walking with a smile. With tracks like ‘Is this it’, ‘Last Nite’, and ‘Someday’ it’s hard not to enjoy a nice walk in the park.

3. Bob Dylan - Highway 61 Revisited -
I’ll admit off the bat this classic from Dylan is an album made for the bus. Whether on the Greyhound or Public Transit you won’t look away from the window and the passing landscape. Definitely evokes the inner drifter in all of us.

4. Cherry Poppin’ Daddies - Zoot Suit Riot -
This one’s for you swingin’ cats out there. Guaranteed to make you throw down a few dances on the way to pass the time. Just make sure no one’s looking.

5. A Tribe Called Quest - The Low End Theory - This is a classic. Mixtures of Jazz and Hip Hop. You really can’t go wrong. The last track ‘Scenario’ with Busta Rhymes makes it all the better in every way.

6. Lauryn Hill - The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill -
The philosophies of Lauryn Hill matched with some rockin’ beats. You’ll have your head boppin’ the whole way. Plus, you’ll forgot the fact you don’t have a car.

7. Motown - The Classic Years - As odd as this one may seem I assure you you’ll have an extra bounce in your step. The Marvelettes, Mary wells, Stevie Wonder, The Temptations, Barrett strong. Come on. This one had to make it.

8. September Sessions Soundtrack - For all you groovin’ cats out there this one is for you. These funky arrangements were made to be walked to. If this doesn’t put some extra pep in your step I don’t know what will.

9. Resevoir Dogs Soundtrack - Our man Quentin has always been known to have some killer soundtracks to his movies. This is one is no exception. A little Joe Tex, a little George Baker Selection. For some reason, this soundtrack makes you feel 10 times cooler than you really are. If all else fails, you always have Stealers Wheel to walk to.

10. The Black Keys - Rubber Factory - This last one is for all you mean cats who like to walk with the look of vengeance. It will make you walk like you own everything around you. Mean riffs, explosive style. The Rubber Factory will make you one mean traveller.

Honourable Mentions - Enter the 36 Chambers, Anything by George Clinton and the Parliament Funkadelic, Anything by the late James Brown......
